Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire (Capital Markets in Africa):- BRVM (The Regional Stock Exchange of eight West Africa) closed its trading session this Monday, higher than the previous day. BRVM 10 index rose from 306.80 to 310.58 points, a gain of 1.23 percent. BRVM Composite index gained 1.07 percent to 302.49 against 299.30 points previously.
The equity market capitalization surged by XOF 79 billion to close at XOF 7,464 billion relative to previous trading sessions’ market capitalization of XOF 7,385 billion.
The market activity measured by total volume was recorded at 155,234 traded stocks relative to 71,400 recorded at previous trading sessions. The total traded value was at XOF 1,055 million (against XOF 1,367 million recorded at previous trading session) exchanged in 35 traded securities via 366 deals. Today’s top stock by volume was ECOBANK TRANSNATIONAL INCORPORATED TOGO with 122,400 traded securities (accounted for about 79 percent of the total volume). NESTLE COTE D’IVOIRE recorded the highest total traded value of XOF 253.641 million contributing about 24 percent of total traded value. The Liquidity ratio (measured by Volume traded/ Ask orders volume) ended at 23.76 percent and Price Earnings Ratio was recorded at 23.27.
Out of the 35 traded securities today, 17 stocks experienced price gains, 8 witness price drops and 10 stocks price remained unchanged relative to previous closing price, hence market strength ended positive. UNILEVER COTE D’IVOIRE was the top price gainer by adding 7.50 percent to end at XOF 26,875. It was followed by BANK of AFRICA SENEGAL with a rise of 5.19 percent at XOF 81,000 and then by SERVAIR ABIDIJAN COTE D’IVOIRE closed at XOF 85,000 by adding 3.66 percent. In the fourth position was ECOBANK TRANSNATIONAL INCORPORATED TOGO with a price gain of 3.57 percent to close at XOF 58 and SODE COTE D’IVOIRE ended at XOF 79,995 with 3.35 percent to become the fifth gainer of the day.
Conversely, TOTAL SENEGAL plunged by 5.02 percent to settle at XOF 26,500 and SICOR COTE D’IVOIRE tumbled by 1.17 percent to close at XOF 8,895. Likewise, SICABLE COTE D’IVOIRE plunged by 1.02 percent to close at XOF 97,000 and SGB COTE D’IVOIRE sagged by 0.96 percent to close at XOF 103,000. BANK OF AFRICA NIGER closed at XOF 79,000 by losing 0.75 percent.
From the sector indices viewpoints, the industry sector index surged by 0.53 percent and agriculture sector index added 1.18 percent. Likewise, the distribution sector index rose by 0.59 percent to end at 529.27 points. Similarly, financial services sector index increased by 1.91 percent to end at 106.95 points and public utilities sector index surged by 0.87 percent to close at 862.90 points. The transportation and miscellaneous sector indices remained unchanged to close at 901.36 and 559.26 respectively.
